the unknown

Esme brought a bit of excitement to the house last night. The three of us were talking at the dinner table after dinner and she was under the table chewing on a bone. She emerged from under the table and her face was all swollen (she looked like a Shar Pei). Having had this happen once before with Lizzy, I knew that she was having an allergic reaction and this was a veterinary emergency. Luckily, our vet’s office was still open so Brian took her there and they gave her injections of dexamathasone and diphenhydramine (Benadryl). They also sent her home with a bottle of diphenhydramine in case she was still swollen today, but she seems to have recovered.

But, we have no idea what caused this to happen. Nothing special happened yesterday. Hopefully it was a one-time thing. If not, we’ll need to figure out the cause, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. On the plus side, she was tired all day today. That never happens.
