last day

Today was my last day at work. It was pretty uneventful as I was working at home. I spent most of the day deinstalling stuff from my laptop and backup pc. That was the extent of today’s excitement. That, and my exit interview.

But, yesterday, I was in the office, so I guess that makes it my official last day. My coworkers offered to take me out to lunch but I declined (we’ve been going out to lunch for former coworkers quite a bit lately–it seemed like overkill). So, instead (without my knowledge) , everyone brought in a dish and we had lunch in the office yesterday. That certainly was not my intent when I said I didn’t want to go out for lunch, but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless. And, I got some cool parting gifts from the office–the majority of them involving booze. Maybe I should quit jobs more often.

Leaving the office yesterday was a bit sad. I’ve been working there for 13 years. That’s a long time. Over 1/3 of my life, in fact. While things have definitely changed in recent weeks, it was still weird to think that was the last time I’d be in the office. Saying goodbye wasn’t terribly difficult as there weren’t many people left in my department, but it still has me in a melancholy mood.
