My friend Laura and her niece were in town this weekend to visit Fallingwater. They made a weekend out of it, and we met at Mount Assisi Gardens this morning. The gardens were just as beautiful as I remembered. After that, we went up the road to the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel. The church was very cool, but even cooler was the crypt of Father Demetrius Gallitzin, which you can visit (but beware as the ceiling is very low!).
By the time we finished with those things, it was time for lunch, so we went to The Backroom Saloon. Originally, I had planned to go to Pour on Center, but as it turned out, PotatoFest was today, so I figured it would be too busy. Plus, you pretty much have to take a shuttle into town, so that seemed like too much of a hassle. Our lunch took forever to arrive, but the food was delicious, and everyone enjoyed their meal.
Laura is from York, and for the past few years we’ve been meeting up once a year. Hopefully the trend will continue!
