the dating game

Update: the married ones…I forgot the married ones!

In 2025, I went on exactly 0 dates. It was partially because I took a break from the dating apps for about half the year. And partially because the available men leave a lot to be desired. I’ve gotten pretty good at digging up dirt on the people I encounter. All I need is a first name, location, and sometimes another piece of information or two (such as age, college, job title), and I can find them. I’m so good at it, it’s a shame I can’t get paid for this type of work. The PA judicial system case search is a crucial tool in my research, in addition to Facebook and LinkedIn. Here are some of the men I have encountered over the years (I haven’t necessarily spoken with all of these people; some I researched before connecting and then didn’t connect):

  • several with one, two, or three(!) DUIs
  • one whose wife had died 3 weeks before connecting with me
  • one with a class 3 felony conviction of corruption of minors (you know, “dating” teenagers)
  • one who was arrested for strangling his ex-wife (not to death, but still)
  • several with lawsuits for money issues
  • plenty of MAGA, of course, but that almost goes without saying; around these parts, that trait eliminates about 80% of the dating pool

That’s not all, of course, but those were some of the worst offenders.

I’m not sure why I bother. I must be an optimist, though I’ve never been accused of that. Even when I do run into a seemingly normal man, he usually doesn’t know how to communicate (e.g., one-word answers, never asking any questions, or replying once a day). One day, I will give this up for good, but not today, I guess.
