Last night, at The Palace Theatre, Geoff Tate performed the Operation: Mindcrime album in its entirety, followed by a bunch of other Queensryche songs. I’m not a huge Queensryche fan, but I do like a lot of their songs, so I went. His supporting band is a bunch of young unknowns–definitely born after the album was released in 1988. I thought both the band and Geoff sounded great. I’ve never seen Queensryche live, so I don’t know how it compares to the original band, who are still touring without Geoff. They played in Johnstown last year, but I skipped that one. I know they’re all talented musicians, but if you’re going to see a band playing Queensryche, Geoff has to be part of it, as far as I’m concerned.
Oddly, they had an acoustic Irish band as the opener. They were surprisingly good!
