I went to this show last night at the Pasquerilla Conference Center and am glad I did! Duane Betts is the son of Dickey Betts from the Allman Brothers. I’m not a southern rock fan, but I checked out Duane’s band online, and he was putting out some quality music, so I figured I might as well go. They did do a couple of Allman Brothers songs, and there was plenty of guitar to go around, which is my kind of set. It was a really great show. The only thing I didn’t like was that it didn’t sell out. It’s disappointing that musicians of that caliber come to town and people don’t show up for it. This is why we can’t have nice things.
The acoustic version of the Derek Woods Band was the opening act. The band was fine, but their sax player was top-notch. I’m glad I saw them just for that.
Also, you have to love going to shows in Johnstown (free street parking, no traffic, leave the house late, get home early). I was home before 10, so I was able to watch another episode of my current obsession, The Pitt. Not only that, but it was their top-rated episode, and I’m still not over it. I may have to watch another one this afternoon (note: I never watch TV during the day).
