Earlier this summer, my blueberry bushes looked great — they were laden with fruit. In the past few years, I’ve had a decent harvest — a daily handful or two for a week or two — and I was pretty happy with it. I figured I would get a lot more this year, but I figured wrong. The birds have been relentless. Every time I go out there, there are fewer berries and maybe 3 ripe ones to pick. It’s so disappointing. I don’t like using bird netting because it gets tangled up in the branches, and birds can also get tangled in it. The birds and I have managed to share the past couple years, but next year I’m going to get a crop tent to put over them so we don’t have a repeat of this.
